The "Grand Turk" arrived in Scarborough on 10th July and stayed until 30th July when it moved to Whitby, staying there until the end of August.
The "Grand Turk", aptly named, being built by Mike Turk in Turkey, was launched in Marmaris, on 12 August 1997, and was built primarily as an action vehicle for the film and television industry. She is replica of an 18th century Man-O-War ship based on drawings of a sixth rate frigate named 'Blanford', of the type that took part in the battle of Trafalgar. She is authentically rigged and her open deck is lined with cannons, and whilst remaining technical authenticity she enjoys the benefit of two marine diesel engines, a bow thruster, and four generators.
"The Grand Turk" starred in the series of Hornblower as the British ship 'Indefatigable' and the French ship 'Papillon'. Painting one side red to represent 'Papillon' and the other side yellow to represent 'Indefatigable' achieved this dual role.
With a total sail area of 8500 sq. feet, an overall length of 152 feet (46.30m), a beam of 34 feet (10.36m), and her main mast of 118 feet (36 metres) high she makes an impressive sight.
